Nepal - the home of Himalayan tea. A land where the mountains touch the sky and tea bushes thrive at some of the highest altitudes in the world. Here, nestled in the misty slopes of the Himalayas, Camellia sinensis plants are shrouded in clouds and nourished by this majestic mountain range. Although Nepal is still relatively young compared to other tea-growing regions, the unique Himalayan terroir gives Nepalese teas an exceptional character. Cool mountain air, abundant monsoon rains, sun-drenched morning mists and mineral-rich, pure soils combine to produce teas of remarkable delicacy and complexity.
In recent years, Nepal's tea culture has undergone a dynamic transformation. Once overshadowed by nearby Darjeeling, Nepal is now making its own mark on the world tea map. Dozens of new tea gardens and cooperatives have sprung up, mainly supported by small, family-run businesses. Many are located in remote, untouched mountain regions - far away from industry and pollution - where tea is grown in harmony with nature: sustainably, organically and with deep respect for the land.
The new generation of Nepalese teas is the result of a fascinating combination of tradition and innovation. Experienced tea masters working with traditional techniques stand side by side with young, visionary producers full of creativity and fresh perspectives. Together they create exceptional teas - some classic, others bold and experimental, but all unforgettable.
In addition to its exquisite taste, tea plays an important social role in the remote mountain regions of Nepal. It ensures sustainable livelihoods for local communities - especially for women - and is the only source of income for many. That's why we are proud to support gardens like our valued partner estate in Nepal, where 99% of the workforce are women. The garden not only provides meaningful employment, but also housing for young single mothers and education for their children - empowering women and investing in future generations.
